Read Luke 12.
Adjust your life accordingly.
Worry is belief in yourself. Trust God in everything, all the time.
'Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiatives, God-provisions...'
(Luke 12:31, The Message)
Go and live.
Instant coffee is gross.
I'm a lover of all things coffee...espresso, lattes, macchiatos, chocolate espresso beans, etc. But nothing can quite trump a good, bold, dark cup of coffee.
Scared?
You should be. It's quite an affinity I have for a good cup of coffee.
I really like discovering a small, obscure brand of coffee that is unique. However, like the rest of the masses have grown to love Starbucks. Having worked in a Starbucks cafe, I have come to appreciate pretty much everything on the menu. That is, until they introduced their newest and most 'innovative' line of coffee...instant coffee.
What?! Starbucks introduction of instant coffee makes little sense to me. Suddenly, I view Starbucks as the overpriced, inflated brand that they've become.
There is no comparison between a good cup of coffee brewed with timing and accuracy and a pile of lifeless coffee particles poured into hot water.
Good things just take time.
I was reading this morning in Exodus 23 and this same thought hit me. Not all of God's solutions are instantaneous.
'But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.' (Exodus 23:29-30)
At this point, God had miraculously saved His people from one of the most dominate and feared kingdoms in human history. He parted the seas for them to walk through on dry land and provided daily food for the entire nation while they wandered through deserts as He began to lead them to an inhabited land that He promised to them. Since God sent Moses to liberate them from Egypt, they saw God act almost instantly, deliberately and dominantly. Now as they stood in the desert, He reassured them that He was going to go before them and push their enemies from them, but in a slower, more calculated way.
Hmmm...
I thought about what God was saying in verses 29-30 and the context of the people's situation. If I'm part of the millions of people standing in the desert, I'm hot, sweaty, tired, covered in sand, oh and, hungry. What gives? If the promised land is so nice, comfortable and desirable, then why must we wait?
God's plans are not restricted to resources or time. He invites us to partner with Him and join in. God has placed dreams and desires in your heart that, if you follow Him, will happen. His plans in your life are inevitable. But His cause will require constant cooperation, persistence and our continual effort. The good news, you can't do it alone.
The success of His plans may come slowly and step by step, but they will certainly happen. Do not concern yourself with momentary worries about the outcome. Instead, partner daily with God and keep in mind that He never needs to stop or take a break. He is constantly involved in advancing the plan.
God's plans, like good coffee, are not instant. His actions and plans are timeless.
(How's that for a good analogy?! Stir that in your coffee and drink it.)
one love...one life.

Read this
Here's the article that the Denton-Record Chronicle did on Journey Church:
Church alters environment, but not devotion
Lots of amazing things happening! Keep us in prayer.

Transmission slipping...
The ascent is dangerous and difficult. The path up the mountain began to disappear in the skyline fueling discouragement and resentment. In the moment, I was fully aware of my fear and inadequacy. Failure was very possible, though necessary. In fact, the reality of, not just coming up short, but failing publicly and miserably, and the sting of not being able to reach the goal in front of me was just paralyzing. It still is at times. In response, I doubted the coordinates of my path and destination, I rationalized what was sensible and I stood very unsure of the support promised. I was briefed at the base camp as to what I should expect and what I should do along the way to reach the top. But the fact remained, I had never climbed a mountain before.
For years, the dream was struggling to stay alive. I learned to live within, but not without. I was the attacker of the dreams and hope within. Like virus attacking my immune system, my addiction and need for controlled outcomes, consumed me. It felt like a transmission continually slipping, never gaining traction and momentum.
The only way to learn is to engage, shift gears. Not in your thinking and praying, in your doing. The only way the dream lives is if you live the dream.
What do you dream about?
What keeps you from the ascent?

The difference is in the motive.
In order to live the life you dream of, would you sacrifice significance for anonymity?
Everyone strives for significance in their lives on some level. From our youth, young boys dream of being the hero in the story...doing things that no one else is able to do. In similar fashion, young girls dream of being swept off their feet, being Cinderella and living in a romantic utopia. Instead, many awaken 25 years later alone, isolated and empty. Rather than doing courageous things, the man who was once a young boy full of life and vitality is leashed to a job he couldn't possibly care any less about; his courage buried beneath obscurity and lifeless routines. The young princess lives in a reality of bad decisions and broken relationships in an attempt to hastily construct the fairytale she grew up dreaming about.
Throughout our lives we are often measured by who we know, how many friends we have, what we've done and where we are headed. This implants a message in our hearts that we must progress in order to be relevant. We've got to be bigger, louder, more accomplished and more commonly recognized than those around us. If not, we are not significant and that is of great importance to most of us.
The result is simple: in our quest for significance, we lose who we are supposed to be. It's a vicious cycle where we trade significance for doing significant things. And there is a massive difference between the two.
So many anonymous people have changed the course of history through significant actions. For the most part, it has everything to do with what you focus on. Doing significant things may be small, unnoticeable actions, but these actions produce change. When we only strive for significance, we are not focused on how we can make a difference as much as how much recognition are we getting.
To see the difference plainly, think of Mother Teresa, who was recognized later in life not because of what she had or who she knew but because of the significant change produced from her life. Then think of the CEO whose address book is full yet no one truly knows him when his significance is defined only by what he has and his forgettable accomplishments.
Can you walk away from pursuing significance in order to do things that are significant?
