This post first appeared on my blog just days after Marianne's funeral. I scribbled this poem in my journal. This was the courtyard experience that I wrote about a few days ago.
The following poem I wrote sitting in a garden while Marianne was in the hospital. Within the context, I was swinging between a lot of emotions. But this came so quickly and fluidly. This was the point when I felt as though Marianne would not leave the hospital with me. Somehow, it was in this moment that hope found me; right in the midst of fear and losing. I will forever remember this moment for it is here that I felt most alive and loved. I hope you find the life within the words. Through these words, God's love rescued me.
one love. one life.
one love. one life.
Death embraced me and kissed me on the cheek
And panic filled my heart.
Destruction promised to never leave
And I stood apart and empty.
My knees buckled
My breath shortened
My crown was stripped
Leaving me alone.
Vulnerably speaking one word,
And You lifted me,
Raptured from my enemy who came for one thing...
Everything.
Sheltered from the violent wind drying my soul.
The earth tried to swallow what it did not own.
You surround me
You shook the core and brought order.
My path was broadened
My knees were strengthened
My breath, full of Your promise.
Strong words spoken around me
In this moment I feel the cool of Your garden,
the scent of life, the comfort of You near.
My dear, walk the path binding itself to the bottom of your feet.
Your steps tender and light
Echo loudly of love lost and found
which heal and guide my soul.
And panic filled my heart.
Destruction promised to never leave
And I stood apart and empty.
My knees buckled
My breath shortened
My crown was stripped
Leaving me alone.
Vulnerably speaking one word,
And You lifted me,
Raptured from my enemy who came for one thing...
Everything.
Sheltered from the violent wind drying my soul.
The earth tried to swallow what it did not own.
You surround me
You shook the core and brought order.
My path was broadened
My knees were strengthened
My breath, full of Your promise.
Strong words spoken around me
In this moment I feel the cool of Your garden,
the scent of life, the comfort of You near.
My dear, walk the path binding itself to the bottom of your feet.
Your steps tender and light
Echo loudly of love lost and found
which heal and guide my soul.
